Default Only runnin' the fogs

Is it at all possible to set up the lighting system so that you can run just the parking lights and the fogs WITHOUT the headlights? I know on some cars you can do this, and was wondering if anyone has done this or knew a way to set up a switch so that this trick could be done. Thanks!

I believe that it is actually illegal to run with just parking lights... Add in just the Fogs won't help. May differ from state to state, yada yada yada...

thats how they come from the factory in most of europe. Mine are like that. I had my dealer set it like this for me. You need Tech2, ask them to set headlights and foglights to EUROPEAN settings. If the technician knows his stuff he will understand exactly what you are talking about.

The laws regarding it are different state to state. Most states require that foglights or driving lights can only be on when the headlights are on, but the city lights on our cars usually suffice as the requirement.

I'm not sure of the exact setup on a 9-3, but on the NG900, there is a fuse that you pull, disabling the daytime running lights, but then you also have to have the system set differently by the Tech II...IIRC, the setting is 'European', which will allow the city lights and tailights to come on (without the full headlights) in the headlight switch middle position, and in this position, the foglights can also be turned on.

I have mine set to this setting as well (european setting) and the fogs only come on in the parking light position, and the full headlight position. It does not matter which position the switch is on in order to have just parkinglights and city lights on. However, a word of caution, when placed in the parking light position the parking lights will remain on, when the engine is shut off, you will hear the bell when you open the door. Just be carefull not to kill your battery by accidently leaving the switch vertical in order for you to drive without headlights, but with fogs on.

That's how my passat was set up. Actually, the fog lights are just on their own switch, you had to have the running lights (parking lights) on in order for the fog lights to work. So you could just wire them to their own switch. I used to do that in low light conditions when you didn't yet need the headlights.

Me too, Cavsaab. More than once.
My 1994 900 worked like that. (Parking + fogs).
It is certainly not against the law here.
