Hey..
I can help but notice that there are quite a few Saabs out on the roads here in RI. I also can't help but notice that there seems to be a disproportionate number of Rhode Islanders on here per capita. So.. Where are you? Say hi, maybe we can arrange a few cruises around the beautiful Rhode Island coastline or something. I'll start with me. I live in Providence, but work in Portsmouth on the north side of the island. I'm pretty much down for whatever. NEXT! --Matt |

Hey All,
I'm a RI'er, Live in Newport, work just outside Newport. Definately psyched to cruise. But Newport is not the place. We need a place with excellent, smooth, unpopulated back roads for this cruise. Perhaps we can find an unpopulated weekend here, take some good pictures on Ocean drive, then cruise over the bridge for some DRIVING. Sorry for the semi rant, but I get so frustrated driving on this tiny island... |

I live in Warwick, though I spent the past few years in school in New Orleans, where Saabs are few and far between. It's nice to be home, where it seems every 5th car is a Saab!
And as much as I'm sure you all are excellent people, and as much as I love my car, I try to drive as little as possible, road rage and whatnot. |

That is sooo true. I'm from Newport, and was just up there for three weeks for 4th of July. I live in Florida now, and my girlfriend, (from Florida), said she had never seen so many SAABs in her life. As for a good cruise, the back roads down by URI are pretty nice, (136 I think :-? ?), narrow though. Wish I could join ya but I'm down here sweatin' my ***** off.

I'm Nate, I'm from southeast Mass (jerk M*******s). I don't live very far from Providence (35 mins) or Newport (25 mins). ince I've been working on Cape Cod I've found there are a lot of nice windy backroads in Bourne and Falmouth that vacationers don't know about. But I'm up for a cruise anywhere in the area!

Do navy police have civilian jurisdiction? I have blasted down that road at times... Also... Anyone know if the environmental police can pull you over if you speed past them? :P |

I'm not too sure of the laws of their jurisdiction. I have also cruised that road many times, and have been lucky enough not to get pulled. Pretty close to the NAVY base, I wouldn't want to be the one to find out if they DO have Civ. jurisdiction.

OK, I know that this is off topic, but I've been wondering this for some time. Seeing as how RI is so small, do you have your own radio and tv stations, or do you listen/watch from other states?

Rhode Island has a lot of great stuff. WJAR (NBC affiliate), an ABC affiliate, I think a CBS affiliate (ch. 12), and a FOX affiliate, and probably have tons of radio stations (I can only think of two, probably because they are the ones I listen to, 94.1 HJY, and 95.5 WBRU.) I must say, the crowning achievement is Ocean State Job Lots. I couldn't live without one.

I'm Tony and I live in CRAAAAAAAnston, RI. I work on the road, mostly in the Newport area. More Saabs per capita down there than most any other place in the U.S., I would imagine. I've not done much in the way of "twisties" driving with this car, but love cruising at interstate speeds and zipping around town from light to light.
What's Burma Rd? Is that the one betwen the Navy base and the water that parallels West Main? I spend quite a bit of time on both Bases. Got to check out the Parade of Sails from down there last week during the Tall Ships festivities. |

bored at work and went crusin' back through the lounge... i'm from lincoln, work in providence, go to college in maine.
top out your car on 295 north right by the MA/RI line, cops cant hide so long as you keep your eyes on the center median. (115 mph in my 1995 grand am, 105?? in my saab) the ann & hope parking lot in cumberland is wonderful for winter time fun during the early hours of the morning. (sideways in the snow @ 60mph - went maybe 300ft) test your high speed cornering on 95 north in pawtucket by the "S" curves and on 95 south in prividence by the "thurber's avenue" curve. (85 mph both ways, racing a new jeep cherokee in my saab and playing with a new 'vette in my grand am respectivly) driving in RI between the hours of 7am and 8pm, any where with in the state any day, are most likly going to be the least enjoyable drives of your life, before or after those hours is when you can have some good fun! |
