Default Atuo. Tramission shift.

Guys, I have a 1989 900S- 16V with an automatic transmission.
When I shift from park to drive I need to pull the stick all the way down to drive2 to be able to drive? Is this some sort of ashifter cable or linkage problem???? guidance appericated....

edit:The page on a 16 valve manual is most likly different.
