I'm going to rebuild my tranny - I've got an 86' t16 and I know that they have a smaller pinon bearing than the later models. Will a larger bearing from a later year fit or will I have to put in a smaller bearing again? And are there any other things I can do to better reinforce my tranny when I rebuild it?
Also, on an other note, as far as new springs, anything to look for or stay away from for better handeling? Thanks |

YOu can't make the early C900 tranny any better. Only upgrade is get entire tranny from 90+ C900.

absolutely not true! 1. you can get a larger pinion bearing kit for the early gearboxes (79-88) from several places. your best bet would be to go through eriksson industries in old saybrook ct (http://erikssonindustries.com/). 2. you can strengthen the gearset itself by shot-peening it. 3. spring for all new bearings AND rods; cryo-treat the bearings and rods and with those 3 improvements an earlier box will be stronger than a later box. of course doing 2. and 3. on a later box will yield a stronger box in the end (it already has the larger pinion and has a superior gearset) james team saabworks |
