I've also posted the following in the 9000 forum but no one ever replies in there:---

Just picked up my 9000 (CSE 2.0t Ecopower). Pure luxury & really smooth engine but definitely not getting rid of my 900 T8 as I love the rawness of it.
Anyway, my question is that it has a Garrett turbo, I thought the later saab turbos were Mitsubishi. What model is it,T25?

Cheers

Ken

I think the 9000 has a bigger turbo, so the mitsubishi would be too small!!

I have a Mitsu 05 sitting in my box room and the one in the 9000 looks smaller, it's a '97 so is an lpt (150 bhp) but cast in large letters is the word Garrett. I'm confused!

The turbo should be T25. This was used on 9000s including standard 2.3Ts. However the 2.3 Aero uses the Mitsu TD04HL-15T.

As it is a 2Litre
i think the garret is a t3 (or is it t03?) same as classic 900.

as alex said, later 2.3's are generally all t25 non-roller bearing....

Think all the newer 9000`s have the Garret T25,except the Aero as Alex mentioned.

Early 9000s had Garrett T03 turbos, but they had slightly larger turbine/compressor wheels. Later 9000s had the Garrett T25, which is smaller than the T03. It provides faster spool-up, while limiting tuning possibilities. Same goes for the Mitsubishi unit that was used in the Aero model.

Mitsu on the Aero is pretty good for tuning. Will produce up to 270 with out problems but with similar spoolup characteristics to the TE05.

Shame its not a direct bolt on swap for the classic 900.

Also bolting pattern changed. Early 9000 have the same pattern as the C900, which makes it nearly impossible to actually get the turbo off, later ones changed to positions that were more accessible.

I fitted a 2nd hand Garret T3 from a 9000 to my T16S assuming they were the same.I just had to spin the housings round to fit. Does this mean that the 9000 one has a larger compressor wheel? If so, does this mean slower spool up time/ more power?

In spool-up time there's not much difference - none that I could notice anyway.
But the 9k T03 is a good unit for tuning, as it can be pushed a bit further than the c900 TO3. That means slightly more boost capacity, but the best part is that the 9k T03 can blow high boost to very high revs without the problems with smaller turbos.

The standard 900 turbo is capable of performing/supporting up to 300 hp i think.A friend of mine has tried it I think. He`s now swapped turbo, aiming for 500+ now and is gonna reach it.

Hope he's got a few spare gearboxes in his garage with that sort of power. I bet no one has thought about quick release catches to hold the gearbox in place instead of bolts to speed up replacement. I think I've found a gap in the market.
