This afternoon my sister borrowed my '91 Saab. She drove it to someone's house, and when she was getting ready to leave, she started it, and left it running for about fifteen minutes before she eventually shut it off (to talk longer, I guess). She went back about 30 minutes later, and it just "clicked." Didn't even try to turn over.
Now, you're the experts--why in the world do you think this happened? It has been another hour, and it still will not start. Any ideas? :-? |

Hey I know that this is a simple answer but nearly the same thing happened to me yesterday. I was replacing the antenna and left the radio on of coarse the key was on and in reverse so the reversing lights were on front and back so it drained the battery just enough to kill the start. So I put it on the charger for a couple of hours and it was fine. So before you get all excited try charging it for a while and see what happens. Sometimes it is just that simple.

Well, she tried hooking it up to a vehicle that was running, and it still wouldn't start. Doesn't it seem like it should have if that was indeed the problem (i.e. dead battery)?
Or would it have taken a couple hours of charging like you mentioned? |

Well when you said "that clicking sound" that is a sure sign of a dead battery to me. Are your terminals clean? Also if the battery is dead enough you may have to let it stay hooked up to the other vehical for a longer time just to get enough juice into so it will start. But a battery shouldn't go that dead so quickly. On my charger I have a jump start setting for quick starts. I was able to start mine within just a couple of minutes. But than I let it charge for about four hours after that. This morning when I went to start it, it started right up and didn't give me any other problems after that. Except for the fact that I now need to replace the front brake pads. Which of course is totally unrelated to the battery :-? Sorry if none of this helps but I can I can only work with what info I have. Don't worry i am sure that there will be another member along shortly with some better advise.
