Default PPC purchase help~

Was JUST about to purchase the part when THE questions popped up in my head. Is there ANY chance that my car will get screwed up with this install? Like for instance, is the part safe for the turbo, transmission, ECU, etc???

JUST making sure before I proceed with the order.

BTW, if I live in California, USA, where should I purchase the unit from? Europe or the US?

All help appreciated~

Do not worry about your car. I annoyed everyone with this question, always afraid of it ruining my car, but i went ahead and bought it. It is amazing. BSR is a very reputable company and has been tuning cars for a long while now, so there, you dont have anything to worry about. Stage one does not require any hardware changes in the car. On top of all that, i did research on the turbos that our cars use and they can withstand more boost.

I bought mine from Europe and sorta got ripped off, so i suggest you buy it from Genuine Saab!!! 8) Feel free to ask more questions!!

I read in the download section of BSR that you must have a charged battery during the upload. I would think there would be some unpleasant consequences if the battery failed during an upload. But that's unlikely to happen. I doubt the PPC will have any adverse effect on the car. From my knowledge it has not been an issue with other models. I ordered mine from Parts for Saab (UK). PFS was about $100 AUD cheaper than GenuineSaab (US) for me. Got an email that said it was dispatched today

Thanks alot for the info guys. One last question before I purchase it, if I was to take the car in for servicing at the dealership, would I be able to remove the unit and not have the dealership find anything out about it? In other words, will there be any traces of the device ever having been installed on my car after removal?

The BSR PPC is a software adjustment. so it basically uploads new information to your ECU etc, somthing like that. So before you go to service, I think most guys have just restored the ECU to the factory settings with the PPC, then when they get it back from service they re-upload the BSR tuned settings.

I ordered mine from Part for Saab. I also live in CA. and it only took 5 days to get here. $855 or so included shipping. Paul and Simon are great people, very good customer service and they have direct access to BSR.

I just found out that they are the ones working for PFS. Man thats cool. Well i have a question to one of them: How would i know when there is a software update for the PPC and if so, how would i upgrade the software on my car, IF the car is already tuned. Do i have to untune it and upgrade the PPC and then re-tune it, or once i upgrade the PPC and i plug it in the car, its gonna tell me to upgrade? I dont really get it

Both I would assume. BSR refers to the car battery in their notes as being critical.

There is some question about whether it leaves a time stamp flashed to the ECU. If so this would be the only way someone would be able to pick it. But just revert back to your original settings on the day you have it serviced and say the dealer must have flashed it during the service. But that would be dishonest.

In the event of a software update being made available for your specific model/engine type, BSR would contact via email all persons affected. Specific instructions would also be made available on how to perform the update for your model type.

Anyone who owns a PPC has their own log-in area on the BSR website. As long as you keep your email address up to date with BSR you will always know if/when an update is available.

Default PPC questions

Two questions while I wait for my PPC.

(1) The instructions say to have a fully charged battery and make sure things like lights are off while doing the flashing. But on a car with DRL's how do you turn off the lights ? Any Canadians or Swedes who can answer this ?

(2) Can the PPC unit be updated from a Mac or only from PCs ?

I was actually wondering the same thing with the lights. But my brother and I went on and did it with the xenons on. It worked without any problems. But i dont know if it always will work out fine?

I would suggest that you run the car for a bit before installing the PPC as you can then make sure that the battery is charged enough!! Thats what i did!!

it's already the end of the month, approx. been 8 business days since i ordered the PPC, and i have yet to get a smile put on my face... i was told by PFS that it would take 7-9 days, but most of the time, less, but nope, not here yet. So i must wait until tomorrow afternoon to start asking around where my PPC is. any comments on how long it took the rest of you fellas(those who purchased from PFS) how long it took you guys to get your PPC? i live in California, USA btw.
