Default 900 Convertible questions 1995 model

HI all
Usually loiter around the 9-5 forum but I have just picked up a 1995 900 V6 soft top and have a few questions. No doubt will have many more but this is for starters.

No handbook with the car so some may be obvious :-)

Ok, start the car and let it sit. Its the V6 and has at least one noisy lifter but otherwise idles happily. However, turn the wheel left or right and 2 things happen.
1. The Speedo rises and falls from zero to about 40 and back to zero again. Just the once
2. I get the bing bong and red triangle on the dash.
Return the wheel to centre and the light goes out, not returning until you do it again. When driving, no light and no bing bong.
The SID gives no written warning at all.

2nd question.
The power roof works quite well, no shortage of grinding and clunking but it generally works. But, in the boot, if I drop the carpet cover down and reveal the horizontal bar and loom for the switches I see two things.
1. The right side spring is broken and doing nothing
2. The left hand microswitch has a broken cover and simply hanging connected or mounted to nothing.
What do those microswitches do and how easy is renewal. There is no obvious or clear position for them at first viewing.
I can probably reweld the spring (and then fight to retension it of course)

3rd question.
My OBD2 Memoscan 380 tells me there is a 'link failure' when plugged in and and connecting.
Should the 380 work on a 95 900 model (UK spec) ?

Ta for any input

Ok

I have done some digging on the forum and it seems I probably have a twisted tonneau bar. The broken spring won't of course help. I opened (quite smoothly) and then closed the roof. All went well untill the final closure of the rear window section. Then all I got was repeated juddering (gears not meshing correctly) and no movement, just at the onset of rain and darkness falling :-)

Anyway, finally got it down. Will look at the motor tomorrow all being well.
Should the roof actually work if the 'bag' microswitches are disconnected? One of mine is broken and have now just disconnected the loom

I cannot find anything clues to the mysterious bing bong , red triangle warning whenever the steering wheel is moved left or right when idling at a standstill so any ideas there greatly appreciated.

Equally any ideas why my Memoscan 380 will not link into the ODB system would be appreciated.

ta

I can't answer about the micro-switch or spring...but before it becomes a problem, you should get the 'stiffner' kit for the fifth bow motor assembly. It is inexpensive (think I got mine from thesaabsite.com). it was a bit of a pain to install but worth it in elimination of some 'shudders and chatters'.

Hi
It is something I will look into but I will get the spring sorted first and see where we go from there.
