I want to install an intercooler whose CORE dimensions are 18.5" wide x 5.5" tall x 5" thick. I am wondering if something that think will fit or not, since our stock intercoolers are very wide and thin. Any ideas? I have a 97 900
PS - Before you flame me talking about just going with the Viggen IC or saying that this isn't necessary, the reason I like this intercooler is because it is A - cheap, B - better constructed than the Viggen's, and C - will outflow the Viggen by a ton. Jordan |

You'd have to hack up the bumper quite a bit. I just put in a 3" thick and have about 1/4-1/2" clearance behind the bumper.
I wouldn't flame you for not going with the Viggen IC, quite opposite, it's a cheap piece of crap. -Steve |

But yeah, I think 5" is going to be a tad much to fit back there. Does anybody have any numbers on the stock Viggen IC, pressure drop, flow rates, etc? That would be helpful so that you could pick an IC similar in size with better numbers so you wouldn't have to do as much trimming/cutting to make something fit. ps. I am by no means opposed to people using different IC's other then the Viggen as I will probably use something a bad bit bigger and more aggressive looking on both of my cars |

I with you Jordan, the viggen IC can easily be topped for similar money. Let us know what you end up with. I like the spearco but I'm sure there are others out there.

Here is my thinking guys, I will look in to it more when I am home...
I think that the intercooler might fit in to the opening or "mouth" of the bumper, since it is not as wide or tall as the stock unit. That could give me much more deapth. |

Actually, your IC is just about as wide and as tall as the stock unit. It might come out a little narrower -- or much so, depending on the angles of the endtanks. I understand it as flatter angles = longer endtanks = better flow. Steve's Spearco unit is something like 26 inches from tube to tube, so just over 18 inches for the core (you checking my math, Steve?)
but you're doubling the width of the stock, which might make for some serious fit issues, especially if you don't have the Viggen/01-02 SE front bumper cover. Aside from that...if the numbers match up, or are better than a Spearco or Bell IC core, then do it!!!! |

Clearance was pretty tight with the install. I can't see how you're gonna get that one in there. No way w/o cutting the bumper up. |

That core looks to be a great size and the price seems pretty good too. |
