It seems that my throttle cable has broken in my Saab, I have been researching trying to find any information about the procedure for replacing it and so far google hasn't helped much besides returning instructions on replacing the clutch cable with appears those a similar process.
I called my nearest Saab dealer, they said the part was on back order and Saab isn't even giving a date for when they might get more in stock, also they want 143bux for the cable Autozones parts finder suggests a "universal" cable made by spectre, however the reviews of this companies throttle cable on amazon are pretty terrible, mainly due to plastic parts failing. I've found a few other brands of universal cables that appear to be higher quality but I just can't bring myself to order one without knowing that it is Saab compatible for sure.if anyone has any insight here that would be awesome. I also found a little bit of information about a recall involving a zinc part in the throttle body corroding and eventually breaking, could this be the rOot of my problem? Thanks guys! |

Replacing the throttle cable is pretty simple. I did it once after I accidentally broke the plastic end that connects to the throttle body bracket. You just have to take out the panel under the steering wheel, the metal knee bolster, and the ducts so you can get to where the cable clips to the top of the pedal. The cable has a grommet that snaps into the firewall, and you should be able to see how it's routed through the engine bay by looking at how the existing one goes.
If you have a CarQuest in your area, give them a call. I bought a throttle cable from them, and it was a genuine Saab part, with Saab molded into the plastic, for a couple of bucks less than Saab's list price. CarQuest bought out WorldPac a while back, which has access to more unique import parts than anyone else. I'm always surprised by what they can get. |
