Fuel Return Check Valve

My Fuel Return Check Valve snapped yesterday, even as I was carefully removing it from the fuel pump assembly.

I was reading that the Return line valve was low pressure, and some interim fixes have been done to get by when the valve or line breaks.

Here's my thought - I was wondering since my valve broke at the hose barbs, could I tap and thread a small brass hose barb into the plastic valve?
