check this out.....now we will be able to get Chimay (and others) in Atlanta!! ching!
Convinced the move will boost tourism, the Senate gave final passage >Thursday to legislation allowing the sale of trendy beers with higher >alcohol content. > >The bill, which was approved 37-7, allows alcohol content as high as 14 >percent. Currently, Georgia law limits alcohol content in beer to 6 >percent. > >The beers that are central to the bill are primarily made in Germany, >Belgium and the Czech Republic, though some come from microbreweries in the >United States. Some are made only once a year and their origins can be >traced to European religious orders. They generally cost $3.50 to $6 for a >pint bottle, though some can be priced at almost $20. > >"They are like the fine wines of beer," said Senate Minority Leader Michael >Meyer Von Bremen (D-Albany). "This is probably going to allow your German >restaurants, your French restaurants, your Czech restaurants to offer more >[beer] selections. It's good for tourism." > >The measure will become law if Gov. Sonny Perdue signs it. Derrick Dickey, >a spokesman for Perdue, said that "unless a bill is part of the governor's >agenda we're not going to give comment on signage until the appropriate >time." > >According to industry reports, 38 states and the District of Columbia >already permit these gourmet beers. > >Meyer Von Bremen said that because of the cost, there was little likelihood >that underage drinkers would try to buy these beers. "These are not going >to be the beers your teenager is going to run out and grab," he said. > |

The greatest alcohol content beer I've had (that I remember) in Massachusetts is Long Trail's Double Bag coming in at 7.2%.

Have a good friend who thinks highly of Chimay (he's from up north and east...as in Ottawa, Ont.). For me, a Guinness drawn in Dublin is as fine as it gets. In the states, I just pretend to like beer. Serve it cold enough and you can drink just about anything......even Strohs. Although Frankenmuth Michigan has a nice little micro-brewery that has a few tasty treats. Last edited by Flash9-7x; 03-01-05 at 03:02 PM. |

Yeah!
Moving to Atlanta almost 3 years ago now from Massachusetts and finally, I can go to Publix and buy some Chimay! Just saw it there last week! I think the highest alcohol content I have ever had was up in MA, Samual Adams Triple bock=13.5% |

I had a 14 percenter yesterday, but I can't remember where from ... it was very syrupy lager and claimed to be the world's strongest "beer", although I have had an Imperial Stout stronger than that!!!
You Georgians (is that right) ... check this ... and some new words you'll need to know. ... oh, and if you can find Leffe in 2.5L bottles ... yes, 2.5L bottles ... "... mmmmm .... Leffffe ..." |

Sorry guys. You are all drinking lemonade. Real Ale is what you need, from the Parish Brewery, near Melton Mowbray.
Check this site out http://www.beermad.org.uk/cgi-bin/show_brewery_info.cgi?id=751 and note the strength of Baz's Super Brew - which I have sampled! £10 a pint when I last tried, and they would only serve you half a pint max! Beautiful stuff, full of flavour - you could cut it. Baz's Bonce Blower is also recommended, and regularly available. HTH
