incorrect gear ratio

Hello, I just bought a 99 saab 9-5 at an auction, I immediately took it to auto zone to get the codes checked and a code for incorrect gear ratio came up, ive done research found out about limp home mode, and that it can be from wear or a faulty ecu, since then i have flushed the trans fluid twice and it was burnt and full of glitter-sized metal fragments. I was planning on flushing it once more and changing the filter then taking it to a dealership to see it they could reset the ecu or check if it needs to be replaced. Is this a waste of time or is the trans no good, I would like to get this fixed asap. any help is welcome.

metal flakes in the transmission fluid is BAD. it was likely abused too much for just a fluid change.
to reset the check engine light, unplug the battery for a while or pull the fuse for the ecu (#20 i believe) - this won't damage anything and you can see if the error comes up again.
search you tube for limp home reset for saab and you find a video tutorial on how to check for and reset limp home mode on the throttle body.

How many miles on this car? Do you know if the neutral safety switch (NSS - often referred to a a transmission range switch) was ever changed? If it is working incorrectly, it could send improper codes to the TCM and could result in this type code and could drop the car into limp home as well. The metal flakes are not a great sign.

Fuse 17 for the ECU and if you find a tranny filter in there, lemme know. lol My '03 auto trans doesn't have a filter. Many newer (newish?) autos don't.
