Default Saab HID bulbs for 9-3 Aero 2004

Need some feedback from the experts here.

Replaced a blown (drivers side) HID bulb today on my 9-3. Costs were little over a $100 for a replacement OEM HID bulb. Pricy! Not sure if it's just me but it looks different from my other (passenger side) OEM factory HID bulb?

Should these be replaced in a pair to match?

I have a little discoloration on my lens on the side where I replaced the bulb. So, not sure if it's just the lens cover that is making it look different?

Any comments would be helpful.

Thanks.

Default HID bulbs for 9-3 Aero

I just had to replace mine, after 7 years and 148K Kms. Both of mine had a slight pink look to the beams. One went intermttent and very pink.

The factory part is a D2S. Many aftermarket parts are D2C which is a universal fitting and will fit the socket. Do not use the D2R. D2C is a bit more difficult to align correctly as there are a couple more notches, and it looks slightly diffferent. The ceramic coated wire shoudl be at the bottom and two small lugs on the side of the base will then be horizontal.

Colour is an issue. Factory original on almost all cars is 4300K, being the closest to a filament bulb. 5000K if you can get it is slightly brighterd, or failing that 6000K if you prefer a slight blue tint. Don't go above this as they are too blue and prohibited in some jurisdictions (Europe is one). The blue ones are sold to the boy racer market and are actually less bright (but don't tell the boy racers!).

Yes, colour shifts with age. If you want them to look the same you should replace them in pairs. But don't buy from Saab. Just find online some Philips D2S and make sure they are genuine. Should be half the price you paid tops.
