So... My a/c wasn't very cold, so I bought a recharge kit. That didn't help, as the compressor cycles for about 3 seconds, then off for 10-15 seconds.
I thought maybe I did something wrong, so I took it to a place to have the oil removed and replaced completely. That was all done, and the low side pressure was checked multiple times with multiple gauges, and it was spot-on 50 psi (it's 90 degrees outside, so that's right). They didn't know what it could be, so they recommended I take it to an a/c shop and have it checked out. After calibration, the only error code I get is 06, left-hand step motor short, which makes sense as the left hand step motor is sitting next to my computer monitor at the moment... Anyhoo, the darned compressor cycles like mad, which normally would be a low refrigerant, but that isn't the case. The compressor did NOT cycle before I recharged the system. Unfortunately, I must have over-filled the system as it was filled with 31 oz of freon (spec required amount), but about 39 oz was removed. What else could cause the compressor to cycle?? Is there a switch somewhere that could have been disturbed during the refilling process? I just don't understand as nothing has changed in the system since it would cool slightly, other than my dumb **** slightly overfilling it, then immediately having it evacuated and refilled. This is frustrating!! |

I am having the same issue, my AC was about 72* coming out and the compressor was kicking off an on, i hooked up the recharge bottle and it was showing about 50 psi then it would cut out and drop down considerably, i let some out through the low pressure side and it stays on but it is below the pressure its supposed to be at and only gets down to 66*. I am a bit confused, i hope i dont need a new compressor.

Well, I took it to a shop, and they found the freon was overcharged...so valvoline overcharged it, too.
They sucked it out, charged it up, and now I'm back to my original starting point...cool air, but not really cold. Temps are around 60 degrees at the vents. I realize it's hot as hell right now, but even still, the mechanic told me he likes to see it around 50 degrees. He looked at the coils, and they're clean, allowing a lot of air to go through them, and the a/c fan is working just fine. So I'm basically back to square one. Oh, except I reinstalled my driver's side blend motor, so I now have ZERO codes in the ACC display when recalibrated. I'm leaning towards cabin air filter and it's missing insulation, and then next to the recirculate control arm. |
