Post A problem with Crankshaft Position Sensor

Hello there,

I'm a new member here. I have Saab 9000CD yr.1993 which is its Crankshaft Position Sensor is dead, I'm wondering if I can replace it with 4AV16F instead of 3AV51E?? Will it work???

The old one doesn't have in Thailand anymore.

Thank you for your answer!

Saabs in Thailand wow. Been there, it is nice, never say any Saabs though. Anyways often people will take a CPC out of a 900 and put that in a 9000. In fact some (shops) actually cut and splice them in right above the main pulley.

the sensors are a direct swap aside from the connector? do you know which year 900's can be used on which years 9000?

I have a '92 that the tach needle doesn't move on and the car cranks and cranks. Then, eventually the needle will bounce and it will fire up and drive fine.

I am not sure if the CPS is the problem or not. I have a 92 9000 that acts the same way and I replaced the sensor and it did not help. I figured it was high miles because mine has 250+. I am not sure which ones will switch, but I bet they all might. Sure give it a try, but a hard start could be many things. I finally gave up on my 92 because I could hear a knock in the engine at about 2,500 and figured it was not worth that much work, funny because mine has good compression.

That's interesting, mine has 165k on it but unsure if that's accurate and has a knock at idle that is intermittent. One theory i had without getting my hands dirty was maybe the front seal was leaking and had gunked up the sensor, but by spinning the engine it threw the crap out. Long shot I know . Other thoughts were a lazy relay. Long shot as well.
