Cooling fan staying on longer than it should

Engine/radiator fan- can't really hear it kick on while driving through town or at a stop. Usually I'll hear it come on once I get in my driveway. Normally it will stay on 40-50 sec. Last couple of days it has stayed on at least 3 minutes. It would probably go longer if I left the car running, but after that long I shut it off. I normally wait till it kicks off before shutting the car off.........paranoid, phobia, anal... I don't know. I just do it.
Causes, fix appreciated!

Best guess -- you're starting to use your A/C and the fan has more to cool.

Second guess -- bad thermostat.

The hotter the outside temperature, and the longer you sit there with the car idling in your driveway, the hotter the engine will get, the longer the fan will run...

Essentially, you're causing it to run longer by sitting and idling.

There is no need to sit there idling waiting on the fan to turn off. It will stay on a little bit after you shut down the engine (it's supposed to....), and that's not a big deal.

Makes sense, although it has not done so since my original post. These engines really run hot and take longer to cool down,don't they?
