Hey guys,
Here is my situation, I have a 1999 Saab 9-3 Base. I am still stock on audio. I got myself a used Pioneer AVIC-F700BT. It came with everything and today I received the Metra 70-1784 harness. I took reference from this post for the wiring. I followed what he said except that I actually wired red (acc power) to red I didn't want to mess with the headlight plugs. So yeah I tried to plug it in and it's working ! One thing though, the volume is so low. I maxed the volume as it's still low; speakers are working well on stock radio... Front and rear are working... Doors is not, it's normal I guess. What am I missing ? An amp perhaps? Lol Also after, which dash kit would I need? The pioneer one? The Metra? Which one will perfectly fit a og9-3 ? Thanks |

I just figured out something. There is actually no amp powering the speakers... This is my first install sorry!
But.. on the power harness, there's some output which the HU's internal amp will power... I have to do the harness all over again.. LOL |

My front speakers aren't working in my 99 either. But I'm running a cheap jvc HU along with a 400w fusion sub and amp. It still chucks out some bass mind you. I'm not that worried about the door speakers as it still sounds pretty clear.

I'll still try to wire them. Sucks to know they are there but not using them. Feels like 'wasting' them
Here's my plan... Front and Rear into the HU via the internal amp. Doors into 'Rear' preamp and I have an mono-channel amp for the sub which will be into preamp output labeled 'Subwoofer' |

That's cool may give it a try myself but just use the amp I have already.

If I ever find my factory amp* (the one which is powering the doors speakers), I have to make a custom wire for that amp to the preamp of the HU.
Something like that http://www.ericsaabsite.com/Audio/Preamp.html *This is so dumb.. I can't find it behind the kickpanel |

You may find there is no factory amp mate. Not all models have them as it depends on the car spec.

So that may lead to the other option... the doors's speakers are wired in the main harness too.. but I can't find any diagram of the main harness

Looks as if the dash and door speakers could be running from the same source then. I know that when I had the standard stereo in all the speakers worked. As well as the radio controls on the steering wheel.

Hey guys talk to "asaturn" on here he makes the pre-amp cables. Can't wait to get mine, all the stereo shops in town tell me that I need to rewire my entire car to install a stereo such BS. Our cars have just about the same wiring as a Saturn L series sedan and wagon. Most shops hear SAAB and they just see dollar signs.

Alright, fine I have no factory amp. LOL
Though, my guess is my doors speakers must be wire with the front speakers. (They are working now with the appropriate amp lol) I redid the harness and it looks like this. ![]() My mistake was wire the speakers into the preamp (the dark grey wires) those must be lead to an amp. So instead of undoing my wire .. I wired some female RCA to plug my Metra harness in. In that case, if ever I go with an aftermarket amp, I'll be ready All I need now is to fit the HU into the 9-3 dash.. any recommandation on the fit kit ? |

Hey, I don't know if this is a stupid thing to ask, but you know you said that your amp wasn't working and found there wasn't one... you also said that your door speakers aren't working... do you HAVE door speakers?
As far as wiring outside of the Headunit, check out how I did things... http://www.saabcentral.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=199063 |

Think you will find the door speakers are wired to the dash speakers and should be working if you stock stereo is running 6 channels. Most after market stereo's only run 4 channels and will state this, as in 4 x 50 watts. As most peeps say on here you may need to think about a separate amp or re doing your wiring harness. Check pics above for diagrams m8.

Not really, just make sure the door speakers are in working order as they have a fault.
