Default convertible manual operation

Why can't I open and close my 96 900 top manually?

Open the trunk, look in the right forward section, you will see a flap, behind the flap is a valve, turn the valve and you will relieve the hydraulic pressure and be able to manually move the top. close the valve when your problem is resolved.

Oh, and your actually in the wrong forum... this is a 9-3 SS room... 03 on.

exactly the reason I moved it to the correct forum, so that people who know the answer will see your question and be able to answer it for you. The release mechanism in the newer 9-3 will be different to the older one, so you're now in the right place to get the info you need.

You'll see it very plainly when you lift the carpet flap.... just turn it to the left all the way.

The right front of the trunk compartment.

96 900 there's a release lever on the pass. side behind the rear seat. It's really more of an "emergency operation" thing. Using that top manually is impractical/large pain in the ****

Why would you want to operate the roof manually? Ignore any advice geared towards hydraulics, your roof is mechanical. As N.E. Swede said, there is an emergence release behind the back seat. If you use it, you will probably have to have the roof reprogramed when you want to use the roof automatically.
