Ok, have been wanting to replace the factory fitted bosch recirc valve.
Ended up scouring eBay for the Forge Split-R recirc valve (one of the only aftermarket recirc valves with the psshhhh noise aswell) but ultimately wanted to get some turbo flutter as I think you'll agree the sound is awesome! Anyway, in fiddling with the standard valve still attatched forgot to replace the vacuum hose, which to my surprise gave me the flutter noise when I booted it. Just wondering what damage is caused if the vacuum hose isnt attatched? Still getting to know the ins and outs of a turbo'd car. |

Not sure about damage, but that's pointless to do. That vacuum line is the pressure that closes the valve so pressure can build in the system, then uses vacuum pressure to release the system. Without it you shouldn't be getting very much boost.

*smh* The "ins and outs" of a turbocharged engine have nothing to do with sounds, this is pointless, and if the hose is supposed to be there why do you think removing it would be a good idea? If your turbo actually flutters not making fluttering sounds from the DV there is serious problems.

The fluttering noise is compressor stall. Pulling the vacuum line off the recirc valve leaves the inlet full of charge (compressed) air. When the throttle shuts, this air cant go anywhere 'cos the recirc valve isn't working, this in turn causes the compressor to stall or can cause it to reverse. Not a good idea. Will bust the turbo
