Default Roof Rack

So I've been looking into getting a roof rack for my Linear. I had looked at Thules originally, but I see that SaabUSA has a roof rack at a much better price. My question is, has anyone bought a roof rack from this website (link below), is this a quality rack, and/or is the Thules worth the extra 100 bucks?

See i wouldn't go that set because it's too inflexible. I think one would want the rails running in the opposite direction then place cross bars for full movement.

I have one that similar to that and its fine. In warmer months I put tule bike racks on it, two of them. Winter ski racks go on it. Very stable, easy to install also.

I have that rack, purchased from that site. I'd recommend both the site and the rack. The Thule accessories such as the bike trays, ski racks and fairings all work perfectly without any additional accessories.

I also found this variant:

I like the looks of this rack, but is there any real benefits between the two?

i have the thule square bar set. great rack. wind fairing is ok... (hard to adjust). the lockset screws are an extra charge, but the rack is quite versatile. ive carted bikes, kayak, rolled 12' sections of carpet.

i dont leave it on all the time because i dont like how it looks or (even with fairing) sounds at highway speeds. 4 screws make this simple but useful.

I've heard accessories for the C track bars are hard to come by. I'll be snagging a square tube set one of these days. They are a great place to order from. I've gotten a few replacement parts and my tow bar from them.

I had a Saab rack originally and then got a Yakima. I like the setup a lot better.

I got the Thule set up from my local SoCal Sports Chalet sporting goods store a few weeks ago. It was $150 + $15 shipping. The store placed the order for me directly from Thule. I couldn't be happier with it. It has square bars and was so easy to put on.

Does anyone know if Yakima still makes a fit kit for the 9-3 SS? I have the Qtowers but their website says they no longer make a kit for our cars.

I just bought that rack for my (new to me) combi, seems like a good deal. Still waiting on it to come in. From what I recall reading while doing my research the Genuine Saab racks are made by Thule so should be the same quality. The C track bars apparently need an extra adapter to fit any accessories ie bikeracks. Full disclosure I have only read stated facts and do not know from experience.

Im pretty sure thule makes our factory roof rack.

The square bars are nice. I have them and got a good deal on them (75 locally with a thule bike carrier)

The SAAB product is very nice and fits perfect. The only thing is they are easy to steal.

I wouldn't trust anything that's plastic, you could always find a used set in the "classified" section of the forum, which is what I did. The OEM bars for the 03-07 9-3's were made of 100% steel very strong. I don't know if they changed anything for the 08-11 9-3's, I wouldn't think they would have.

I think the Thule racks are very durable for only being held in by four screws. Grabbed mine off the forum as well, super cheap.........usually the person is getting rid of attachments with it.

On my previous vehicle, I had a Yakima rack with a couple attachments. When I got the 9-3, figured out that they didn't make a unit for the 9-3 from Yakima. I just went ahead and bought the Thule rack and attached the Yakima racks to it, works great. The Yakima bars are circles and Thule are rectangle, luckily there's 90 degree notches on the Yakima rubber clamps that mount to the bars Definitely saved some coin. Unfortunately I'm rockin two rack company logos on my rack, getting that changed soon.

I received these in the mail yesterday, I have a sportcombi without roof rails. When I set the bars in the mounting brackets the rear bar is parallel to the ground but the front is tilted forward slightly. This does not seem ideal for carrying any type of load or installing accessories. I am thinking I was sent the bars for a SS not a combi. Can anybody with a sportcombi and square roof racks comment on how their bars sit. If this is confusing I can try to post some pics when I get home.

Thanks!

Bmoney -

The bottom "feet" are angled slightly. Without a pic, I'm guessing you simply need to turn the bar around

That seems right. Im an idiot, it was late last night... On another note, does your rack have any spacers than go beneath the feet? They are shown in the directions for 5D only and also in thules directions I looked at online.

Not that I recall, but my rack was from Saab so maybe it was slightly different. I ended up switching to a Yakima rack with Landing Pad 11s.
