Xenon Stupid Tax

Just had my Xenon lights replaced at the Dealership in Southborough MA.

Did they do a good job? I will let you know in a few weeks to see if the flickering has stopped. I am assuming it has. Assumption though. Time will tell.

Did they charge me too much? the D1S bulb on eEuroparts costs around $80 for each bulb. The dealership charged me $271 for each bulb. They were going to charge me $291 for each bulb until he saw the look on my face. Their fee did not include the labor if you are thinking that maybe the case. They also charged for the labor but that was not too bad, again I think due to my displeasure.

You do the math. That was some steep stupid tax I just paid.

We only had it done at the dealer because it is still cold, and I heard about issues replacing them (easy to break parts while doing it). I tend to break things, so we knew we were going to pay a stupid tax, but that was a steep one.

Dammm! I feel like because we do not go there often and go to an indepedant shop they were trying to make up some of the money they have lost out on all in this last visit. Maybe they knew I might not be coming back.

Just had to share facts that should be food for thought if you go to this dealership.

If it makes you feel any better if possible, that is what they charged the previous owner of my car per light, I have the reciepts. And he took his car their for everything.

From what I hear, that's a fairly typical dealer charge for the HID bulbs.

just so you know, most dealers will let you buy your own part and have them install it. did that with my xenon bulbs, saved about $250.

$42 on amazon for sylvania, about $10 more Phillips. I'd suggest doing it yourself next time. I dont know if the 4 cylinder is different (I highly doubt it), but on my V6 changing the xenon bulbs take literally 5 minutes, including disconnecting the battery.

Yep. 'tis true. I was quoted $280 per bulb before labor. I said heck with that! And got them on ebay for less than $120 for the pair. Put them in in about 20 minutes and they are great. Perfect pure white/light blue color too.

that is insane.

it takes 10 mins max to replace the bulbs and really... it's a little tight but unless you have gorilla sized hands, its extremely easy to do without risking breaking anything...
