Default C0460 - Steering Angle Sensor Circuit Malfunction

My 2005 93 1.9 tid 150 bhp has been comming up with "Stability Control Failure Contact Service", had this problem for about a month now and just managed to get my OP COM on the system resulting it the following fault:

Identifier: 0x0301
Hardware number:12801327
System name: ESP EBC430
Part Number:12801324
Software version number: 00C3552E
Hardware key number:
System description: TRW 0300
Alpha code: AA

Total number of fault codes: 1

C0460 - Steering Angle Sensor Circuit Malfunction

Has anyone come accross this before, can give me a pointer on the location of steering angle sensor?

Any help will be appreciated.

I believe it is part of the CIM (Column Integration Module) and if reported as missing, the CIM is knackered.

Cheers for quick response, I have had the drive shaft out, plus an auto lock smith has reprogrammed my cim unit and a new set of keys due to damage on the only working key.

Could this be the cause, meaning cim unit?

Could be the fact that the auto locksmith has messed with the CIM and that has caused the Steering angle sensor to throw an error, may just need the SaS module re-adding.

Get a Saab Tech II unit on it at a dealer or independent specialist to be sure.

Ooooo, good answer!

That's pretty much exactly what the WIS says! After messing with the CIM the module needs to be re-added.
(silently prays that his next car has a USB port, wi-fi, or some other kind of user-hackable interface instead of proprietary nonsense like the Tech2)

Steering angle sensor/clocksprings, as well as turn and wiper switches can be replaced fairly easily, sparing a CIM replacement.

Where does one get a replacement steering angle sensor? Dealership says complete CIM required to fix faulty steering angle sensor.

Whenever I make a slow right turn, I get the same 'Stability Malfunction' warning, so if anyone has the answer to this, I would also be greatly appreciative of the knowledge as well.

Getting the exact same thing - also the same C0460 error and also on the slow right turn.

I would like to avoid replacing the CIM so... if there is a component to be replaced that can spare the CIM, I am all ears!

Post # 162129 is the best to see the innards of a CIM. Great job to anzollo and steen for the photos. Windshield wiper and turn switches as well as clockspring and steering angle sensors can be replaced without resorting to a new CIM. Its fairly easy...but clocksprings and steering angle sensors may require recalibration with Tech 2, but no security access/TIS is needed.

How is your front end alignment? I've noticed that whenever I get my front end aligned, these messages never pop up. But as soon as I start hitting all the god forsaken potholes that Illinois has, the front end gets jacked up. Then thats when my car starts throwing the errors. I've just come to live with it.

First thing I did was take it to align. As soon as I saw the first machine read turn up all green I knew that $$$$ will be spent

Rulling the alignment out, although the rear left was a bit out, it seems to have helped but not solved. Also my winter tires are shot so... since I need to buy new tires anyway, will see if it somehow helps.

Problem is that I have the yearly inspection coming and if that error pops up during it, it is an automatic fail :P
