Default Help with Saab Pulley Diagram

I need help figuring out which pulley I shredded along with my belt yesterday. I am having a hard time finding a diagram that will tell me which pulley it is. Then I need to find the part here in my parents home town, but if that fails there is a Saab shop in town I can get the pulley and belt from.

According to this diagram, the pulley that broke is the upper left hand side pulley (just above the tensioner and to the right), but for some reason or another, the small pulley above the main pulley on this diagram is not part of my car.

Any help telling me which pulley to buy would be very helpful.
I drive a 1996 Saab 900 SE Turbo.

Thanks!

Okay, so I just had another look at my car. Last time, we must have removed that pulley and went with the short belt. PMI, a Saab guy on the forums here helped me with that.

So... can anyone tell me which pulley I need and what belt I will need for the short version?

Thanks!

The upper idler pulley, part #6, is this part , quite easy to come by and perhaps even easier to replace.

A good belt is a grooved serpentine such as the Goodyear Gatorback, 6PK2455...

Check "idler pulley" and "short belt mod" via the search function and you will find a consensus and not just myself telling you what I can manage to remember...

The tensioner is part number one on the figure above. And, the 4-cylinder Saabs have a timing chain and not a timing belt. It's the V6 engines that have a timing belt. BTW, the newer V6 engines have two timing chains... Ron

You have a timing chain, so the only belt is the serpentine belt.

The tensioner is at the back of the engine. It's the pulley below the idler pulley in the diagram. Take the little black plastic cover off of your engine and look for the pulley connected to an aluminum swing arm. There's a square hole in the tensioner that you stick a 1/2" socket extension or breaker bar into, and then pull forward to release the belt.

If you're not in a hurry to repair the car, consider ordering a Wazee pulley. They don't self destruct and they have a replaceable bearing.

Go with the Gatorback belt... order from Amazon if you can't find one locally.

I second the suggestion on the Wazee pulley. I did it and feel more secure about it not breaking on a trip and ripping up the belt.
