Default 2000 9-5 Blower Motor Replacement

Hey guys,

My 2000 9-5 needs a new blower motor. It was working intermittantly for a while and the other day it just quit all together. My mechanic took it apart and said that a new one is needed. He told me the part is $600 from Saab.

I would like to order an aftermarket part online and I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions where I can go for new or even used parts here in Canada or in the US.

I know there are 2 blower motors available for the 2000 9-5, one for VIN's thru Y3046041 and one for VIN's from Y3046042. My VIN is Y3040101 so I must need the first one.

I'm having a little trouble finding the part #.

Can someone help me?

Thanks!!!!

hold on there!
i won`t buy a new motor just yet, there`s a good chance that its just the bushes that need replacing.
of course your mechy ain`t gonna tell you this because he wants to make as much money out of you as possible.
the same thing happened to my blower motor, replaced the bushes and its as good as new now.
bushes cost peanuts, plenty on ebay and easy enough to replace.

If your blower motor is already out "my mechanic took it apart" all you need to do is remove the old brushes and replace them with new ones, very easy VERY cheap fix.

Brushes and a little soldering and you save about $550.00.

Just an update...

I ordered a new blower motor from pelican parts for $200 including shipping and had it installed by my mechanic. Works perfectly and I saved about $400!

Default Blower motor

I also have a 1999 Saab 95 and the heater blower has packed up. Will one out of a Saab 93 fit or are they all different?

Try the brushes - it's not very hard. Brushes available on ebay for a few bucks plus shipping. http://cgi.ebay.com/Heater-Blower-fa...item3f078354ec. Hardest part is getting the motor out - my windshield wipers were very happy with where they were. You'll need a good, small gear puller. Also a race of wires that snake around the motor housing have a number of clips that can be annoying. A soldering iron and you are there. I did it a few months ago and all works fine. Godd luck

as you are facing the car it is behind the firewall and underneath the plastic cowl below the windshield. Not too difficult to get access to it. There is some plastic parts that need to be removed underneath the cowl as well as the windshield wiper motor parts.

Default heater blower

Thanks. So I take it you get to it from the outside of the car not inside.

Default Fan vibration

My heater fan vibrates on my 1999 9 5. First two speeds is hardly noticable high shakesthe windshield and stuff off the dash. Is it the motor itself or somthing in the fan.

Default Try the Brushes.

I replaced the brushes in my blower motor this summer for $20.00. I took me a few a couple of hours but well worth it. Saved me over $500. I found a Youtube video that showed me how to remover the blower and the new brushes came with instructions. Good luck.
