Default Can you help me with another car?-Wandering 4WD '03 Suburban

So before I go joining another forum (It'll be my 5th) I thought I'd seek the help from the infinite knowledge that Saab Central has to offer!

So we have a 2003 Chevrolet Suburban LT Autoride with every option, with ~122,000 miles. We bought it brand new in '03 and it has been almost flawless the whole time. (Can't beat the Vortec 5.3 for reliability) Until now. The 4X4 is acting up. Each time on start up it goes into one of the 4WD settings. Like tonight it went into 4 low and would not rev past 2K which was almost dangerous when we got out to the highway. (Didn't notice it was in that setting until I put my foot down to get up to speed and it didn't do anything) So I pulled over, put it in neutral, and pressed "2 hi" on the 4WD panel. Didn't so anything and "Service 4WD" came up on the display. Shut the car off, turned it back on, put it in neutral pressed "4 hi" it clunked around and went in, then pressed "2 hi" again and it went in fine. shut it back off, went in to my grandpa's house, came back out, started it and it was in "4 hi" again. But when I tried "2 hi" again and it went in fine.

Anyone have experience with this or know what could be going on?

Sounds like an electronic or computer glitch, more than a mechanical issue.

Extended warranty ? Have you asked your dealer/mechanic about it ?

I remember reading that the 4wd engagement motor would fail and either disengage or engage 4wd. There's another component that fails too, It's pretty common. I'll have to look for links in the morning.

Thanks for the replies guys. I was thinking computer glitch as well. But I have also heard of the car defaulting to 4WD when there is a problem. When you get it into the setting you want it works perfectly fine. And, unfortunately, it's well out of warranty...

Like finding this forum it probably took awhile but here you are.

What would Jesus do?

Well if I were him, I would go over to Corvette Action Center and ask for a recommendation over there for a good forum. Heck since they are a Chevy bunch (and real nice guys, absolutely top notch), many probably have one and can just give you the answer or steer you to a good spot.

Tell them that "65-to-00" sent you.

They probably don't even remember me.
