I had my car looked at today by a mechanic because my warranty expires soon they replaced the vacuum elbow hose at the throttle and did it for like 3 bucks, but when i went to start my car it took about 4 seconds to start it up when it usually takes only 2, it also cranks twice to start up... it's a 2003 saab 9-5 turbo arc with a 3.0 v6 what is wrong?

My car has 76k and only tends to do this when the gas tank is below 1/4 or I use less than 91 octane (rare). After cleaning my throttle body, MAF, and re-oiling my air filter, the problem occurs much less. I'm changing my fuel filter this weekend, I'll be interested to see the difference if any afterwards. The fuel pumps are usually tacked to last about 100k from what I hear, but are not a terrible pain to diy supposedly.

Possibly a failing Crank Position Sensor (CPS) if it's doing it when the car is hot.
If engine temperature doesn't make a difference, then possibly a clogged fuel filter/failing fuel pump/spark plugs needing to be replaced (only use the correct NGK BKR 7ES-11 plugs)/air filter/dirty MAF. |

hi, yes i would go for the cps too. i had the same problems with mine. if it is that that it will get worse. and get to the stage where it will cut out in traffic, then you won`t be able to start till the engine fully cools down, which take take upto an hour. i speak from experience. not a big job to replace, just a bit fiddly. mine cost about £15 from saab themselves.
