Default Cabin fan stuck and won't shut off on 9-3 (you may not need a new part!)

I've seen a lot of posts on this. One particular helped me a lot when my fan was stuck on, even after removing key from ignition.

It directed me towards the Blower Motor resistor, which looks like an organ.

I noticed that one of the contact had a film on it. I cleaned up the contact,
added some dielectric grease, and then reconnected everything and its working great.

Just wanted to share that, as this parts seems to range from $180 aftermarket to $330 from Saab, and there was no problem with the part
on my 2003.. just the connection.

While I was at it I re-oiled the blower motor shaft as recommended, but
you don't need to remove the blower motor to get to the "organ-like" part
which clips into an air duct from underneath the motor.

Hope this may help save someone some $$.

This just happened to my car, so thanks for the post. I want to try this solution first, but I don't know much about the part. Is there a diagram of the Blower Motor resistor available somewhere?

there are 2 types of resistor...

1 for mcc looks like organ pipes/hedgehog

1 for acc which is silver & black & screws onto the base of the fan housing..

If you poke around the forum, someone show a link to a new Blower Motor Resistor (the one that looks like an organ was my culprit) .. Its not directly attached to motor. It plugs into the plastic duct upside-down behind and to left of bottom left of blower motor. Sorry I dont' have a picture.
