Default 1999 9-3 headlight problems

I replaced the left headlight bulb in my 1999 9-3 yesterday only to discover that the problem is not the bulb. It's in the electrical connection.

I checked the voltage in the engine bay fuse panel and the right high and low beams come up 12V but the left are both 0V. I tried to track where that wire was coming from without removing things and it looks like it goes to, or at least near, the battery.

Besides a shorted wire, what else could be wrong that would cause just the left channel to stop working?

Do those funny 40A/60A fuses next to the battery control the headlights?

The usual problem with the headlight is the high and low beam headlight relays go bad.

Well, sort of.

The pins on the bottom of the relays are soldered to the relay board inside the relay.

And the solder cracks and no longer makes a connection.

Pull the orange relays, pop them open and reflow the solder with a soldering iron. Be careful not to short any contacts.

Replace the relays and report back if this doesn't work.

Heck, report back if it does.

Thanks Mike. I'll do that tonight.

But doesn't power hit the fuses before the relays? If so, and if no power was coming to the fuses then the problem is before the fuse panel. I couldn't find a schematic online anywhere to see if this is right.

So if there is no power in the engine bay fuse box at both the left hi beam and lo beam fuse positions then it's not the relays, right?

Does anyone know the order of fuses in the maxi fuse box? Could it be that? I pulled all the fuses out and they looked ok.

You guys are the BOMB! I wiggled the orange relay and the headlight went on. Armed with that information I went home and resoldered those connections and after a bit of cleanup plugged it back in and it worked like a champ!

Thanks once again for all the help!

Does anyone know what the "Light Control" relay even does? There are relays marked "High Beam" and "Low Beam" but the orange one is marked "Light Control".
