It was time for a little speed test  - SAAB 9-3 Aero versus a new Mercedes E klasse, you be the judge
http://pictures.swerin.com/media/pho.../228200003.mpg >> Mercedes E doing 220 km/h http://pictures.swerin.com/media/pho.../228200005.avi >> SAAB Aero SS 9-3 doing 210 km/ I didn't dare to drive faster with the SAAB due to winter tyres, windy conditions and one hand on the steering wheel  |

I'll try to post one movie where I can max out the car.... 240 should be reasonable for the car as I was doing 210 on 4k RMPs. The movie is from the Autobahn between Switzerland and Stuttgart/Germany, no speed limit for 150km

Nice little video clips cswerin. I had a great time when I drove from Dusseldorf to Wolfsburg. I had a 2002 Audi A4 with a 2.0L for a rental. It was 4 hours each way. I think I got it up to 180 km/h only. It had 15 inch balloon tires.

Yep...nice videos. I had the chance on driving to Osnabrueck with a 9-5 Aero. Sadly I didn't had a video camera with me...it was fun. A 9-5 Aero (driven by me, sadly not my car) and a 9-3 (MY03, a guy from GB) with 210 km/h, doing a litte chasing. The one in the front cleared the way, so allways swapped places. Two Saabs in the wild and on the run!! Was sooooo cool.
On the way back home to Frankfurt I had the chance on going 250 km/h on the Sauerland-Linie. Woho....Allways thought the 50 km/h difference from 200 to 250 is just nothing...Now I know it is not!!!! It was really thrilling. Sadly you have to be so damn carefull at those speeds, espacially when there are Sunday-Drivers on the road who can't see the speed that the car coming from behind is going at. So they just move to the left, right in front of you! Well....another way to test the breaks and the MBA. But I'm sure I don't have to tell you this cswerin. Maybe we meet on a Saab Moments Club Event in Germany when I have my Saab next year. Ok..200 km/h will be top speed (I gonna have the 1.8i-engine), but still enough to have some fun. Happy driving everybody. |

Nice clips ...
Although I have to question the Saab driver ... driving and videotaping? Now that's dangerous at 100km/h, never mind 210! I rented a 2001 Mercedes 240 about 2 years ago ... When I was returning it, I cranked it up on the short highway run ... I got to about 190km/h and there was lots of room left. And the car was practically brand new ... had under 2000 km's on it when I picked it up. When my son was having a seizure at 4:00 in the morning, we got him into our 1999 Hyundai Elantra (auto). Needless to say, I was not obeying any road signs ... I couldn't get the car going as fast as the Merc on the same stretch of highway ... At one point I had to re-think a left turn I wanted to make .. skidded right into the corner and had to go on to the next turn. I have never driven a car like that before and never want to again! |

*laughing* I was not really looking at the camera and that is also the reason I didn't go faster as there is a huge difference from 210 and 240  .

Whoa! Just saw this and had to bump it up in case anyone didn't see it! What a beautiful video. And to think all I got to drive in Germany was a piddly little C-Class diesel! Next time, I'm looking for an agency that rents Saabs!

I've had my 9-5 Aero at 155mph on the... ... "Autobahn"
Thats roughly 250 kph... I'm hoping to go higher when I install my ECU upgrade... |

I took my old 9000 2.3 to 225kph (140mph)and it was steady as a rock.
Then I took my Renault Clio to the same speed, needless to say it got a bit light at the front end! I wont be doing it again. |

I clicked on the 9-3 link without much hope of anything happening, as I have a very slow dial up and have never watched a video online. Nothing happened, so I carried on browsing. 15 minutes later the screen goes blank and suddenly I am flying down the autobahn

Wow!Seems to me the 9-3 is waaaaaaaaay overgeared!
At 240 kph you still got 1500 rpm's to go :! |

But.... What if you are a fuel economy concious 240kph driver :P I've got about 500rpms to the redline when driving 250kph (the governed speed) with my 9-5 Aero. When I finally install my ECU upgrade I am thinking that pushing the redline juuust a little bit I should be able to do 270kph |

Have in mind that every 1000rpm in 6th,is 50km/h on the speedometer..... Of course I don't think that it will ever be able to reach 6000rpm --> 300km/h.... |
