Default Convertible top leaks

Last year I replaced my ratty but leak free original convertible top with a much nicer original top from a parts car 1987 900 turbo convertible that was always parked indoors. The top looks very nice.

But it leaks

I get water from the front around the front rail, leaks on to the sun-visors and drips down. I also get water along the rails.

I used 2 cans of 3M Scotch Guard designed for Canvas. No luck. Filled two tiny holes with some black caulk. No improvements.

The fitment looks good.

Ideas?

are you certain it's leaking through the top and not coming in between the top of the windshield frame and the front bow of the top? I had a '72 Impala 'vert that leaked there - turned out the rubber seal was shot.

If water drips onto the sunvisors then I bet it's coming from the windscreen seal (where it's bonded to the screen frame). Very common. Take off the trim at the top of the windscreen frame (above the sinvisors) and take a look. Hopefully it just needs some mastic screen seal and it's not corroded there.

Dan.

My triumph herald leaked there as well - however - it leaked everywhere else as well - much like my 356 speedster ...... damn I wish they were in my barn today!
