Default Aftermarket intake plenum? 9-5

I heard that there is one that is less restrictive, whereas the stock one has a narrowing area on it. Is there a substantial difference in performance w/the aftermarket replacement? How much approximately for one US?

You can use any filter with a 3 inch inlet, mine was $30 some people spend over 100 for the Genuinesaab one.

A thought just occurred to me. I already have the drop-in sport filter from GS. What if I removed my snorkel to make room for the planned intercooler and cut holes in a different place on the stock filter housing? The idea is to use the stock filter housing as a splash shield and having the cheaper drop-in filter give similar flow rates to an open air filter.
There is a substantial difference in turbo spool times with a more open intake. Not to mention, many engine tunes require a better intake. Maybe the option I outlined could save you some money.

"intake plenum"? As in intake manifold? Or just air filter as the others suggested?

Do you mean this for $25?

Or this for $80?

Both photos captured from www.genuinesaab.com

The first one replaces the restrictive inlet on the pre 2004 cars, retains the stock air box and filter, yields a noticeable improvement with mid-range acceleration (no change from standing stop), and does not increase the turbo noise. This is a factory part originaly installed on the european spec diesel engine models only.

The second one replaces the restrictive inlet snorkel, air filter box, and air filter. It yields a more noticeable performance improvement across the entire RPM range, and also allows everyone to hear more turbo noise. Most owners love them but some have removed them for being too noisy.

+1 on cardriverx; intake plenum generally means intake plenum... not air filter...

Thats like me saying does anyone have any turbo upgrade ideas, and people responding the forge dump valve is really good. :|

Standard plenum and head good for 500hp+.

Oh wow, that is beautiful! I wish I had the fabrication skills to build something like that.
