Default '02 Viggen Question
Hey Viggen owners ... just a question ... does your hood have TWO or just ONE strut to hold the hood up? Try to determine if the car is missing one on the passenger side. THANKS.

My car is a 9-3 99' and has 2. So does my gf's '96 900se. Your car should have 2.

They went to a single higher-powered strut sometime during the 9-3's model run. Some of them don't even have the attachment points for a second strut, but some do.

hmm interesting...learn new things everyday. Doesn't seem practical to change the design, but maybe one big strut was cheaper than 2 smaller ones.

my '02 doesn't even have a mounting point on the pass side. It only has one hood strut - on the driver's side.

Interesting... Mine 2000 Vig has two, both of which failed recently at nearly the same time. The replacements on eeuroparts look the same between the two... wonder if I could put the stronger ones on my two-strut car? They're only a buck more each..

Anybody know? Doesnt seem like the mounting points would be that much different..

No he's not. They switched to one hood shock in model year 2000, beginning with chassis number 1424175, according to the EPC. I should've checked that earlier.

I noticed the same thing on my son's 2008 Grand Prix. His car doesn't even have the mountings for another strut... Ron

My '99 has one driver side strut. Theres a mount on the body for the passenger side, but not on the hood.*


*DISCLAIMER: My car was in a cosmetic accident before I purchased it, so I have absolutely no idea what the original setup was.

My '02 has only one (driver's side) and my '01 parts Viggen also only had one.

I think it has been determined that after chassis number 1424175, Saab switched to single struts.

Interesting little fact. /thread.
