My wife's 2001 Saab 9-5 Wagon hasn't had high beams for a little over a year now.
I went to replace the bulbs but they were fine. Tested fine in the low beams. Pulling the stalk does not get a light on the dash indicating that they are on. I listened for the relay to click and it does. Just to be sure, i swapped the rear wiper relay with the high beam relay (same part number) and nothing changed. What else could it be? |

Have you tried the orange relay? Thats usually the culprit

I didn't SEE an orange one. On the cover of the relay box, what's it labeled? I was only going on the diagram on that, so I only checked the 'high beam' relay
I was unaware of the 'orange' one until about 20 minutes ago when I was googling the crap out of this. Sure sounds like it's the problem though. Might have a go at soldering it |

I just wiggled the orange relay, taped it in place with electrical tape. Been working fine for two months with no failures. It is probably only a temp. fix but less trouble than sodering for now.

Happens to almost every 9-5. Replace orange relay in u/hood rely box, cheapest to get a couple of them from junkyard, NG 900. later 9000, all 9-3 to 02 and 9-5 have them.

I have had problems with high beam lamps for a while- always the driver's side which is a challenge for my big-handed self to change as I don't want to take the battery out (although that would make things easier.) Now the low beam is out on that side so I guess I'll have to figure something out if I want to drive at night. The blue high beam indicator works sporatically when I have good high beam lamps in even when i can see the highs are on so I wonder if I have a bad orange relay. No junk yards in Tallahassee have Saabs so I'll have to buy one new. Guidance on part number, fair price, and online source?
Thanks! |

Hi, I'm having a headlight issue too in my 06 9-5. There is no power going to the "Right Side" headlights, I see where most of the time it's a bad "Orange Relay" from what people say, however I don't see any Orange Relay in the fuse box under the hood. Another strange thing happens when I pull out a fuse to check it, the battery goes dead! I looked at the fuse diagram in the owners manual and it calls out two square fuses going to headlights on both sides of the car, but when I pulled them out the "Left Side" headlight still comes on. I'm lost for words and don't know what to do next. Any ideas?
