Remember the Antonovs, a Russian father and son banking duo, who were VM's partners until they had to leave before GM would sell to Spyker..
Well, this article is in "The Local", Sweden's English language paper: Government probe halted Saab deal Published: 30 Jan 10 09:48 CET Online: http://www.thelocal.se/24686/20100130/ An investigation ordered by the Swedish government into the workings of Spyker and its Russian investors landed on the desk of the FBI and put a temporary stop to the Saab deal being reached. A source close to the government told business daily Dagens Industri (DI) that Swedish security service (Säpo) were given the task of tracking the business interests of the Antonov family who were major investors in Spyker at the time. The assignment was initiated by the Swedish National Debt Office (Riksgälden) which brought in private investigators to aid the mission. Säpo is reported to have found connections between the Antonovs and organised crime as well involvement in money laundering. To prevent the Russian's gaining any possible control over a new Saab-Spyker venture the government handed their findings over to the FBI. The US government reacted quickly to the report and gave the board of General Motors a direct order to stop the deal, which happened on December 18th. Hans Lindblad, state secretary at the Swedish Ministry of Finance, has confirmed the course of events stating that by bringing such information to light, the government were able to argue for a prolonged bidding process in December last year. Earlier this week, Dutch billionaire businessman Marcel Boekhoorn upped his investment in Spyker and was reported to have replaced the Antonovs, a Russian father and son banking duo. Lindblad told DI there is no longer a Russian connection. "The Antonov family is gone now and have not power position whatsoever in Saab Spyker," he said.

Its sounding like this all happened in the past and they are just reporting on it now. It says nothing about stopping the sale now, but that it was a hold-up in december. Seems like there is nothing to really worry about now.

Do we have enough material here for a film? Perhaps a new Bond film. He can have a tricked out C8 racing a CCXR with lots of Saab police. The whole thing based on true events around the Saab deal, Koenigsegg, Spyker, the Antonovs and the floundering GMpire. All the ingredients are there folks.
 Hmmmm...wonder it would be called.

Some here have commented on how ostentatious and distastefully ornate Spyker cars are, one close look at details of the Laviolette and the rest
shows just the opposite, with every lever and hinged pedal there for a purpose, these cars are a bit like a the LEGO demo engines, but in a stylish and low-key exterior wrapper. My hope is that Vic Mueller and the rest find their calling in reviving SAAB and this time next year we will be looking at a new UrSAAB in the making, is suspect it will be the AeroX concept from which even my humble TurboX draws heavily at the front end at least.
