Default Xenon Levelling Fault - Tutorial?

Afternoon all,

Been out in the car this morning to be greeted by the Xenon headlight levelling warning light - no errors on the sid which i thought was strange!

I have seen a post on here saying the main dealer traced the error and fixed the sensor for £96.

Is there more than one sensor, eg, front and rear? is there a way of telling which is faulty if there are? I am looking to replace the part myself, would a main dealer tell me the fault without doing the repair - at least so i ordered the correct part?

Lastly, does anybody have a tutorial for this repair (or is it in the Haynes manual?)

Regards

Matt Clarke (the car is an 03 Aero btw!)

Never had to work on them but yes there are two leveling sensors one up front and one in the rear, the front one watches the angle of the subframe to front wishbone and the rear one is attached between the rear subframe and the transverse link.

always disconnect the battery before opening the headlamp or messing with the ballast under the lamp assembly though. Not just a 12VDC shock from that *******.

And wait 20 minutes after the battery is disconnected. I believe they use a capacitor which will hold a charge for some time after the battery is disconnected.

Angry auto levelling xenons....

Today i visited my lovely friends at the main dealer!

They quoted me £200 (GBP) to get the part (approx £70) and about £130 to diagnose it, fit it, and code it.

I find this very steep!!!!

The part is approx £45 on europarts, my issue is not knowing whether its the front or back sensor thats gone on mine, and i also didnt know they had to be coded with the car. What does the coding do?

Tonight on the way home my lights were fine, when i parked with the beam on a hedge, you could see them twitching up and down slightly and hear the motor clicking.

Is it possible to get the lights in the correct position and remove the fuse that powers the motor? Obviously this would be for a quick temporary fix!

Kind Regards

A1damuk

Its not possible to remove the fuse and the new sensor needs calibration with Tech2.
