Hello!
I just have a quick question -- I recently had some work done on my car (DI Casette, fuel filter, battery replaced) and I seem to be getting noticeably lower MPG on the highway. I get this feeling that I'm running at higher RPMs than I used to, but as I look at it I cannot for the life of me remember what I used to run on the highway (say 65 or 70 mph). My concern is that my torque converter may not be locking up properly. Can anyone with a 4-speed auto tell me roughly what they run on the highway for RPMS? Thanks! |

I think around 22000-2300 at 65-70 mph. My brother has a 4 speed auto and i noticed that it is similar at highway cruising rpms as my 5 speed auto.

I think the 5 speed autos had the same final ratio as the old 4 speed, so that would that would make sense Firehead; though if that is wrong, someone please correct me. |

Ok, thanks for the replies , guys. I'll have tocheck my car tomorrow but I have the feeling I'm running higher than that now. Is there something that can cause everything else to seem fine with the tranny, but the torque converter not to lock up? Seems like that might explain the higher RPMs I seem to be seeing...

Do your brakelights work? Failure of both brakelights would cause no lockup.

I'll definitely have to take a look at them, but I haven't seen anything on my SID so I assume they are...

If ths is not the Problem, have the car checked with Tech2 Diagnostic tool at the dealer.

I'm not sure, but on my son's MY'92 Ranger had the same problem of the torque converter not locking up after putting in another tranny and found that the shop had not pushed the wiring connector in properly for the overdrive lockout.
Maybe whoever did the work, accidently damaged a wire or disconnected a wire to the tranny. |
