This is actually really cool. Ford sent competitive drifter, Vaughn Gittin Jr., to Japan with a 2010 Mustang to find the roots of drifting and meet the drift masters over there. It's mindblowing what these guys can do, especially on narrow mountain passes. It's also pretty cool seeing an American icon like the Mustang drifting alongside Toyotas and Nissans on Japanese tracks, passing mountains and navigating the narrow streets of Osaka. I've often derided Ford for its marketing efforts, but I have to admit, they did a great job here.
There are 6 episodes (~4 mins each) - they're all good: Ch. 1 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B1WAlwNMlY4 (touge racing in Osaka) Ch. 2 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IWv_s...eature=channel (bihoku highland circuit) Ch. 3 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ojuG-...eature=channel (meeting keiichi tsuchiya - THE drift king) Ch. 4 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8tiIf...eature=channel (ebisu circuit - has 8 drift circuits and its own zoo) Ch. 5 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n6RUB...eature=channel (ebisu circuit - Japanese drift pros get behind the wheel of the Mustang) Ch. 6 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h3rGg...eature=channel (he reflects on the highlights of his experience in Japan) Last edited by TurboBlix; 08-11-09 at 03:23 PM. |

i like the way it's done. it's not all obnoxious and in your face. and whereas gittin definitely has the laidback slacker vibe, he comes across as both respectful and insightful.

It's so impractical
unless this thing is carbon fiber and not housing a huge v8 then i dont see how they use it for drifting It's such a heavy car, is it not? I just can't imagine "drifting" in a mustang |

I have noticed the 2010 Mustang has the "sequential" turn signals like the old Mercury Cougar had many years ago, blink blink blink, it is neat

in the above vid, gittin says that the mustang Ford sent him with to Japan was basically stock and 3100 lbs (but it looks like the 2010 mustang is 3500 lbs so they must have removed 400 lbs somewhere). the mustang he's drifting in in this video is 2500 lbs. |

i was just under the impressioin that mustangs were beasts weight wise
Nonetheless, the videos were very cool. I like seeing tuner cars that are nicely done and put together, not the rice burner, crappy ones you see over here all too often |

drifting cars are generally pretty stripped, so it's not like it's a stock 3500 pounds. usually it's just a seat, maybe two, and a rollcage haha.
neat. |
