1999 Saab 95 4 cylinder auto with about 150K on it. My son was driving this tonight and it quit running on the highway. He started it again and was able to get to a parking lot and called me. When I got there I started it up and was running fine except for the 1st 5 seconds I heard a series of clicks and it went way but it was burning blue smoke. The more the gas the more the smoke. It seems to run smooth. I had it towed home and will look at it tomorrow. What I was wondering is why the clicking at first( seems it was coming from the TB) and why would it stall out? Any help out there?

your TB is in limp home mode.
you can reset it manually. very easy. blue smoke is a sign that your turbo is out its way out. could blow next week. could blow next year. blue smoke is a sure tell sign though.

TB is not in limp mode. I checked compression and it hold about 150psi in all cylinders. I removed the intake hose from the TB and still blue blue. does the turbo inject the oil from that tube or does it go in somewhere else? Possile that the TB under gasket gone?

you sure it aint in limp home?
my TB made three CLICKS whenever i turned the key to the ON position n i had to reset it cause it was in limp home mode. maybe the o ring under the TB is gone. blue smoke is usually a sign that the turbo oil seals are shot.

i thought so.
yeah sounds to me like your turbo is dying. nothing you can really do but start to save your money for a new one. or try and get your current one re-built either by a shop or DIY

Pull the hose off the output side of the intercooler and see if you get a bunch of oil running out of it - if you do, definite turbo toast.

Unless you have a way to balance stuff in the turbo, would try your hand at rebuilding.
Simply look up XSboostturbochargers on ebay and you should find a dearth of turbos. About $500 for a Garrett GT17.

Thanks to all.. it was the turbo that was bad. I t wasn't to hard to replace except for those banjo bolts, but they fell right in.
