This is the follow up to my other post, the waste gate valve inside is totally missing, the part that goes over the 1" hole on the turbo. AND the turbo is seized solid the turbines won't turn with a socket! BTW this is a '87 turbo.
The olny good news is it olny took ~ an hour to take the turbo off, all the hardware was cooperative. My questions... Are some/all 900 or 9000 turbos interchangeable? Anything I should check for other then feeling for bearing play and making sure the waste gate works, when checking out used turbos? Anyone have a known good turbo for sale in NA? Any tips on cleaning the oil delivery pipe? I'm really greatful for any/all help, I'm still green to saabs and turbo systems. |

Earlier turbo's were not water cooled, just the oil feed to the bearing. If you have the later water cooled type you can change for either a garret or a mitsubishi as fitted to the later (89-) 900's.

here in the U.S. we got the T3 on all 900 and the later 9000 got the mitzu. i have a mitzu on my car and i love it. the garrett is better on top end but the mituz is alot better on bottom. if i were you i would try to hunt down a mitzu off a 9000. youll have to turn the turbo to fit the 900 but that is a few min job. anyway, happy saabing and good luck with your turbo. they always come off easier than they go on. i had mine off in 20 min. took me 2 hours to get it back on.

So if I get the coolant plumbing & turbo off a water cooled turbo it will be a "bolt on" no custom rigging?
Thanks again |
