Question 94 WhaleTail Care

Hello to all Saab enthusiasts!
I'm new, so please be patient.
I have a beautiful 94 900S convertible with 59k original miles in excellent shape. I need to know what 900 owners use to detail the Whale Tail.I've tried a couple of things, but only in test areas. I would love to hear your suggestions. Thanks in advance!

How on earth did you manage to get a whale-tail on a convertible? Do you mean the 5 piece wrap-around spoiler?

Sorry, I have heard it called a "Whale Tail", I guess its more accurately a spoiler.

this is what I was told to try on TSL:

"If it has car wax on it anywhere you need to clean it with a bug, tar and wax remover or a pre-paint prep like SherWil Clean. Best to scrub it well with plenty of solvent and an old toothbrush. Next, clean it with a 50/50 solution of swimming pool algecide and water. Rinse well and let the spoiler dry real well. Apply Thompson's Water Seal. Yes, you read right--Thompson's Water Seal. You could use any number of products from peanut oil to Poor Boy's Trim Restorer on it, but Thompson's is the only product I've found that doesn't leave streaks down the side of your car when it rains. Thompson's will help keep it dirt-free and waterproof as well. As the spoiler ages, it becomes porous. Whatever you put on will really get soaked up. I use a foam brush to apply it. Rags tend to leave fuzz on the spoiler."

I haven't tried it yet but it is supposed to work really well!

The best product I have found for 'rubber' spoilers is Auto Glym Bumper Care. After cleaning particularly grotty spooilers with normal car shampoo you initially need to apply bumper care liberally. The product fills the open pores of the spoiler as you work it in. Once done leave the product to dry for 10 minutes then polish it off. It should come up almost like new with a deep sheen. Thereafter you should only need to apply it every 2 or 3 washes.
