Default 9-5 years (what year was it redesigned)

currently i do not have a 9-5 but i am looking to buy one. i have some question for you saab owners. What years did the 9-5 get a redesign. i almost bought a 2002 from ohio but it sold before i had a chance to make an offer. can somebody please tell me what other model years have the same body style? also while im here how long do the engines ussually last in a 9-5 linear?

all help is appreciated.

'99-'01 original model, 4sp automatic.
'02-05 facelift, suspension upgrades, better seats in Aero, 5-sp auto
'06+ GM-model with revised front end looks and interior.

Basic trim levels are Base/Linear, SE/Arc, Aero.

'99-05 Linear model gets short lived GT17 turbo, 2.3L 4, 170-185hp
SE V6 model available until '03, 200hp.
Arc from '04-'05 gets 220hp version of Aero engine, TD04 turbo, 230-260hp depending on year.

Engine life depending on maintenance, some are 300k + at this time. Linear turbo dies long before the rest of the engine.

Not all SE designated cars are V6, by the way.

Right. They had supply issues in 1999 for the V6 so some (a lot) of the 1999 SE's are 2.3t's. ALL 2000-2001 SE's are V6's though, as well as ALL 2002-2003 Arc's.

The engines will last way beyond 100k miles in these cars if they're cared for and don't have SLUDGE. Do your research about sludge, there are plenty of previous posts, and I think even a sticky about it. Don't forget though, that while the engine will make it past 100k, other stuff craps out a lot. I bought a 2001 9-5 V6 with 159k miles thinking to myself "it runs strong, what could go wrong?!" I put $5500 into maintaining that darn car in the 2.5 years I owned it. Engine mounts, coolant bypass valves, lots of suspension doodads, the SID, turbo, timing belt (not applicable to 2.3t's), exhaust, PCV stuff, the list goes on... The 9-5 is a great car, and with their depreciation they're relatively inexpensive to purchase, but you should be prepared to maintain it.

The depreciation is nuts. My '04 ARC sold for $34,000 new. I paid $7000 for it last month, thats a $27,000 drop in 5 years- or roughly $5,500 a year!!!!! That is insane, I would never buy a new one or even close to new, thats for sure.

The SE is a V6 while the ARC is a 2.3L HOT.

I should have been more specific. In the UNITED STATES all 2002-2003 9-5 Arcs are V6's. In 1999-2001 they did not have the Linear/Arc/Aero lineup. They had Base/SE/Aero. Linear=Base, SE=Arc (more or less), and Aero=Aero.

The SE's and Arcs up to '03 were all pretty much fully loaded with all the options (dimming mirrors, H/K Sound, memory seats, etc...). In 2004 they started making a lot of stuff optional in the Arcs.

That all depends on what you plan for the car.
I'm not prone to selling cars I have, so it would be a smart move for me.

So Wulf's '05 is not likely to be an option for me then?

I was looking at a 2004 MB 500E 4Matic wagon on eBay. It was $60K new and you can get one for under $20K. It is not something Saab specific.

There were also many changes underneath, including suspension and steering improvements. Better audio (aux-in and XM) as well.

I bought 2 new. One with European Delivery and one with a $10K discount. Buying new is no so bad.

No fighting kids. There may be another 9-5 up for sale 6 months after I sell my '06. Why don't you let me know the color you want so I can put that on my list.

I was going to post a new thread but i tried twice and it didnt work...
If im not wrong between 2003 and 2004 there were also some small changes:

2002-03 9-5 front bumper (consists of 2 pieces)
http://www.stationwagon.com/2002_models/2002_Saab_9-5.jpg
http://images.autoexposure.co.uk/AETA31974/AETV54615116_1b.jpg

2004-05 9-5 front bumper (only 1 piece, and notice the different shape of the foglights)
http://www. /blog/wp-content/uploads/2007/07/1116835.jpg
http://car-reviews.automobile.com/images/cars/ArtImages/32336/01.jpg

By the way, the front bumper of my 2002 9-5 has quite many scratches and some minor dents, i should get it painted and repaired. But maybe a new 2004-05 9-5 front bumper, which looks better and a little bit more modern to me, wouldnt cost me much more...
which one looks better and more modern to you??
Does anyone have an idea of how much can a new 2004-05 front bumper cost me??
i suppose i can only get it at the saab dealer...
thank you very much.
