Before opening the roof latches, did you open the trunk and lower the boot well? Just a guess........

No fluid on a '96. It's an electric motor nightmare.. ( I can say that, 'cause I have one)

If won't move either way, and it's in the air, try turning the key off and back on, and/or feel around the top bow to see if the microswitches might be sticky. Also try tapping your flat hand into the bottom of the top well (where the top folds down into).

what does tapping the boot for the top do. you're suspecting the microswitches in that area? if i recall, it's either microswitches or programming. go for the simpler of the two.

yes, i had to ask that. just checked the diagnostics pdf, and the potentiometers were mentioned, but, again, try the microswitches first since they are a lot simpler.

hello, i've been having some 5th bow motor trouble. I'm not going to go into the problem right now because i already have a planned course of action (thanks to this site). However, could someone walk me through the steps on how to check/ top-up the hydrolic fluid. With pics if you could manage. I've heard some explanations but i'm afraid i just don't know the termonology so half the time i don't know what people are talking about. Thanks.

see if you can find it or start a new thread to get some pics. your question is totally different and relates to a totally different top system. i think having a thread like that with pics available would be really helpful for several people too.

If the top is still up in the air, lower all four windows. Lower the backrest of the rear seat. Kneeling on the backrest, just a couple of inches to the left of that large opening to the luggage compartment, look for a slit in the trim panel, about 5 in. long. Behind that slit, look for a red handle. Pull that handle down til it is horizontal. That should release the top so you can pull it down to the windshield and latch it if that is what you want to do. You should also be able to move the tonneau cover and the fifth bow. I don't know if the tonneau cover will latch, but the fifth bow won't latch. Push that red handle back up to vertical. To latch the fifth bow you need to find and read a thread about two or three months ago by flyhop. This will require removing plastic push clips to release and get behind that trim in the luggage comp. It is also possible to access the tonneau mechanism including the tonneau latch lever near the tonneau motor on the right side

NVM i started a new thread where someone told me that they didn't have hydrolic sytems till the 9-3. And after reading all of this thread i realized this was said before i made my post. - Woops.

Default roof problems

I had similiar problems with mine and a chance hint from a Saab techo was all I needed to rectify the problem simply. the hint is: if you remove the battery terminals for 24 hours then the ecu for the roof will reset to factory defaults. Works a treat if all other components are in working order.

ps I had just sraightened the tonneau cover motor mounting plate and restored clearance to <32 mm and renewd pin in universal joint( with a roll pin)
