Default (Upper) Brake Light failure

I've had the upper brake light out since I bought my car but now my SID is fixed the warning message has finally got to me.

I traced the wires to the connector and remade the males/females up by the unit but having measured and got only 9v at the connectors then nothing at all so the fault is somewhere else.

Where does the wiring to the unit next join to the loom or is it paralleled in with the tail lights?

Anyone experienced this before?

Default Upper brake light

My bulbs are bulbs and I've taken the unit off and zapped 12v straight across it, got all 5 bulbs (501s) to light so I traced back and can't get 12v at the connector (hence why I re-made it).
