Default Saab out of business? Parts obsolete?

Is Saab going out of business? Several places have shutdown already. What is that going to mean for obtaining parts for your old Saabs? I have a classic 900, and have just been fixing up the engine...already some of the parts were a wait to get.

If Saab calls it quits, should I sell the Saab?

There's really nothing to compel a manufacturer to continue making parts for a model that's been out of production for 16 years.

Your best bet is to buy three or four parts cars and put them in your backyard as spares *

Having worked in management for a large parts distributor I can tell you with a high degree of confidence that you will continue to find parts for years to come, at least aftermarket anyways.

Some unique and interior body/exterior body items may become obsolete; however, you can count on brake pads, rotors, engine parts, suspension, cooling system, and A/C parts to be easy to find for decades to come.

There are enough Saabs produced that there will be a continued profitable market for the parts to be produced. For unique items, the salvage yard and ebay are your best bet.

Saab has already been phasing out C900 parts...

but most of those you don't replace anyway...

Scan-Tech still exists

If they did stop producing parts it isn't that big of a deal. i sold my Volvo 740 a few years back, an 1987, and I found a really good salvage yard in the area. I was even able to get odd interior and exterior trim parts, etc. All it forces you to do is to become more crafty in finding parts, like ebay or I had a dedicated volvo parts reseller i worked with all the time.

i am sure genuine saab could always help you find what you needed. They have enough junked 900s in the back of their shop...

I would not worry about not being able to get parts.. I have a 32 year old Fiat 124 I can still get most everything for.. that includes some bodypanels. This is car that has been out of production since 85 and the manufactorer itself pulled out of the country in 81...
