well then...
in that case...
by rough guesstimation, you should be fine with stock pistons right up until you decide to go with a bigger turbo (think GT28 and up)...as a rule of thumb. the guys around here are pushing well into the 4 and 5 hundreds to the wheels on stock rods and crankshaft, and just forged pistons.

what are you planning to do?

I'm thinking starting with bigger injectors, exhaust, fuel pump, all the supporting goodies. Then perhaps going with a better suspension and brakes, and finally, big air.

This is all pending me getting a saab though.

Looking for a 96-98 900 SE for under 5 grand with under 120,000 on the clock.

probably a rebuild with new rods/pistons.

So basically how much power can you make with a stock bottom end?

Lower end mods, such as a crank or rods. I come from the diesel world, where 1,000 pound feet of torque are a couple grand away, and I just went through a set of rods, and a crank. Not looking forward to it again. Thanks for all the help guys.

If you sneak up on it and do everything right 400hp is doable. The problem becomes if you run out of fuel pump or have a bad DI etc..... this is where the problem comes. Also you want to make sure the rings are tight etc..
