Default SAAB 900S, 1996 Fuel pump replacement

Hi guys,
my SAAB 900S, 1996 did not start. Mechanic told me that it needs fuel pump replacement and it would be $915+tax...So, I decided to try doing it myself. But I could not find any repair manuals. Could you please advise me how to do it. Also, what about aftermarket pumps, are they good. Or should I buy it from a SAAB dealer?
Thanks a lot.

WOW ... I just had mine done ('96 900 SET) and it only cost me $900 ... Canadian!
Get a second opinion ... even if you can find the manuals ... btw, I was informed that there are no aftermarket fuel pumps ... sorry!

Who is your mechanic if I may ask? That seems really steep. Did you call eEuro and ask if they have one? He has more than he has on his site. Try Sobstory or site sponsors above too. You might buy the factory manual from GenuineSaab to help you with the job. factory manuals are pretty thorogh. Haynes may cover it well too.

It's a 3 wrench job (out of 5) in the Haynes manual. Looks pretty easy. Only 4 steps.
Of course #2 is: Remove Fuel Tank (See section 12).
