Hi all,
The driver's side front floor in my 2008 9-3 SS is soaking wet. Passenger's side is OK. I have the all-weather mats installed, and the don't seem too wet, but the carpeting underneath sure is! Are there are common faults or things that I should check? Otherwise I plan to vacuum out the floor and see what happens. I have 7,000 miles on mine, and I never had this problem in 130,000 miles on my old 9-3. Just looking for some advice! Mike |

It could be water trapped under the rubber mats. I've had this happen in my VW before. The ice/snow melts, leaks under the mat and doesn't dry up because of the temperature and the rubber holding the moisture in.

Some of us with the 03-07 body style have had this issue... the seals inside the door were torn/damaged and were not sealing correctly. I had 3 of my door seals replaced under warranty due to the same issue. You can possible check by having someone sit in the car while spraying water at that area to see if its leaking in.... if so, take it in quickly before you could possibly have mold issues, etc.

check the wall bottom cabin filter area, between dashboard and engine compartment, wiring harness grommet, for bad assembly..... or another circumstances.

Do you have a sunroof? If so, there is drainage that runs through the car for water. If it is clogged up by ice or leaves or whatever else. Water, and alot of it, will accumulate on the floor.

I checked under my mats this morning and the driver's side was soaked with water. I took the mat out and cleaned it up with paper towels.
The only wet carpet was underneath the mat. I also checked up near the pedals and nothing was remotely wet there. This has to be because of the rubber mat. Water trapped underneath it can't evaporate, and with the warm/cold/warm/cold weather we're having, snow, ice, rain, etc... I'm pretty sure that's what's causing it. |

Check you sunroof drain lines. I've had this problem in several cars when I didn't have a garage.
I got a shop vac, put on the smallest "snout nose" attachment and then duct taped a straw onto that and then crammed that into the drain holes in the sunroof. Put the vac on blower mode and you should see things start blowing out. You can also test this with a garden hose...fill up the sunroof with water and see what happens. Another possible culprit is a clogged AC drain. |

Mine doesn't have a sunroof. I also didn't notice this problem before I started using the rubber mats, so I'm hoping that's what it is.

Ok, over the weekend i completely dried the carpeting up, removed all the rubber mats and washed the car with a pressure washer. No leaks. Carpet is still bone dry.
All that water ended up being from snow melting underneath the mats and getting trapped. If you're using the OEM rubber mats, I'd remove them and vacuum at least once a week. |
