Default 2003 93 SID Error = Checking VIP440_ICM2b-3.9.8RC2

Hello! I have a 2003 93 Arc. I recently have recently had the following message appear on my SID:

Checking VIP440_ICM2b-3.9.9RC2

This is constantly on the SID and will not go away.

I took to the Saab dealer in Danbury, CT and they said that they have never seen the error before and could not pinpoint the issue. They first recommended that i have the radio face plate replaced.

If that did not fix the issue, the recommended that i get a new SID.

If anyone has heard of this or knows what it is................any help would be greatly appreciated!

WOW!!

You cant imagine how far I am into my WIS.......

The important thing to remember is that ICM is the language selection software behind the SID. It's the link between you and the computer.

You have different ICM into Saab:

ICM1 basic sound system
ICM2 Optionnal
ICM3 Navigation kit.

If I read correctly, your dealer is supose to know what is it ICM2 and he is supose to be able to reflash your ICM2 software.

Your dealer can reflash and had different language into your ICM with SPS programation...

I can't find nothing directly linked with your problem but your ICM can be reflash by your Saab dealer.

Told him to open is WIS and write ICM into the search engine.

He will find how to reflash your ICM. Be sure that he putback english into the ICM.

So before change part, try this!

thanks so much for your help! saab quoted me over $1,000 for the repairs and i have been very skeptical of getting it fixed without trying something else.

it is interesting that you mention language settings and 'put back in english' as my AC contols went from from farenheit to celsius when the error occurred. i wonder if something happened with the language setting.

well, unfortunately i took it to another saab service in greenwich, ct and they were able to get it to work briefly but when they turned the car off and then back on, the error reappeared. unfortunately for me, they also say that it is the SID failure and it needs to be replaced.

just what i did not want to happen.

Huh, the SID is displaying correctly. This looks to me to be the ICM which now has corrupt flash memory. That would be my guess. Thus the SID is displaying that it thinks that ICM code is on the ICM but the ICM is not acting like that.

In computereese it would be a POST error.

Remember you can get used ICMs and SIDs from scrappies. For the ICM you just need to know the VIN of the car it came from.

another quick update to the saga. my SID is now working fine in the daytime when it is nice and bright outside. however, when it is dark or cloudy, it does not work at all.

any thoughts?

fine with me for now as the beeping for the error has gone away but overall just annoying.

Do you have auto climate? Perhaps the sun position sensor is sending bad data, or the climate control module is not communicating properly.

The two sensors which look at light on this car are the rain sensor for the wipers (diffraction-based light sensor integrated with the mirror) and the sun position sensor (the thing on the dash which blinks to tell you security is active).
