Default 9-3 lights always on

Hi all,

Again I am new to this board and new owner of a 03 9-3 Vector. When my car is "On" all of the lights are on even when it is daylight out, parking, tail etc.. is this normal? My GMC lights only come on when it is dark out?

Thanks

Our Saabs have the great DRL setup. Our lights are on as soon as you start up the car. Only the European models have the ability to manually use the light switch. So no matter where you turn your headlight switch they will remain on. There have been many threads on turning them off. You need to call your dealer and ask if they can disable your DRL's via the Tech II and go through the UEC. Its a 50/50 on this as they will give you liability issues and junk. Hope this helps..

Thanks Intercepter,

I knew that the DRL would be on no matter what but I have not seen any other car that all the lights were on. My tail lights and front amber parking lights are always on that is what I was asking about? Is that how it is on there 9-3's?

Yes, they are always on (parking lights) with your daytime lights (headlights). I had my drls and parking lights turned off and my tails remain on even in the off position.

The light switch will turn on specific lights in the interior, but it is always better to be visible then not. :-)

I just find it a little strange because usually, lifting the handbrake should turn off the lights when you are parked, i.e., in a parking lot, waiting for someone, but you can't do that on these cars...

I thought I read somewhere that there's a DRL fuse that could be removed. Anyone know if this works?

This was true for the old style 9-3's, not the current generation.

In the United States, DRL's are not required on vehicles, so the dealership really has no argument. Sure, they serve a purpose and they will probably give you a laundry list of why they prefer not to - but if you complain enough they are most likely going to do it (at least from what I've heard).

The switch otherwise serves no purpose whatsoever, so I just leave mine in the "on" position.
